The Importance of Mesothelioma Lawyers – When To Look for Mesothelioma Lawyers

Asbestos has become widely used since the industrial revolution of 1866 as a standard fire retardant insulator in many manufacturing plants.  Unfortunately, it is also the case of death for many of the workers exposed to the asbestos fibers.
As early as the 1920s, constant exposure to asbestos through inhalation in the workplace has been confirmed by the medical profession as the culprit behind the Mesothelioma, a form of fatal cancer that destroys the protective linings surrounding many body organs, more commonly occurring in the pleura protecting the lungs, the pericardium protecting the hears and the peritoneum protecting the abdomen.

A Bit of Legal History
It has been documented by the Environmental Working Groups Action Fund that about 10,000 people die every year from this form of cancer and other asbestos-caused diseases.  One out of every 125 US citizens who die every year over age 50 dies from asbestos-caused disease.  This notwithstanding,  there are still about 1.3 million US workers who face the asbestos hazard in their work maintaining buildings, equipment as well as in the construction industry.
The first lawsuits against makers of asbestos appeared in the late 20s and since then, the litigations against asbestos makers have become so widespread that the a specialized set of Mesothelioma lawyers have started to take on these spirited cases in various states over the last century.
Litigation Today
As a direct result, known asbestos makers have disposed off asbestos making affiliates, developed asbestos alternatives and substituted or engaged in a new line of asbestos removal.  Most of the big names have, in fact, closed shop.  By the early 1990s, more than 50% of the 24 leading asbestos makers in the country such as Carey-Cadana, Amatex, Manville, National Gypsum, Unarco, Standard Insulation, among others, have filed for bankruptcy for the weight of the civil suits filed by Mesothelioma lawyers.
The word “victim” may be too harsh but as a South Carolina Attorney Ron Motley, said, these asbestos makers are “the greatest corporate mass murderers in history.” The Clean Air Act now mandates the save removal of asbestos content in buildings.  But the ‘safe” removal has been giving the Federal government litigation cases and Mesothelioma lawyers remain busy winnings civil suits for victim plaintiffs today.
